Mike and I have been hunting hard since August 30Th for Elk. On September 20Th My nephew Layne Rumsey wanted to go Elk hunting with us. It was raining so hard we thought about not going. We had been sitting on a water hole for around 2 hours in the pouring rain, when I heard the elk coming through the timber. I told Layne "here they come" when a dry cow and hard horn spike came running down the trail. As the cow came running by at around 20 yards I stuck her in the chest. She went about 20 yards and stopped so I stuck her again, she then busted out of the country. The rain was coming down so hard, we were afraid of loosing the blood trail. When Mike got to our location it was starting to get dark and was still pouring rain. We had a hard time finding the blood trail. We were able to locate the blood trail and found the cow about 70 yards away. I figure I have found three shed elk antlers and one wolf kill 4x5 Elk this fall so MEAT IN THE FREEZER!
